What Is a Good GPU Temperature for Gaming?
It's normal for your graphics card to get warm under load, but how hot is too hot? Here are the temperature ranges to aim for and when high temps become a problem.
Normal gaming temperatures
- Under load: most GPUs run comfortably between 60°C and 80°C while gaming.
- Idle: around 30°C to 45°C when you're not gaming.
When to be concerned
Sustained temperatures above 85°C aren't immediately dangerous — modern cards are rated for it — but they can cause thermal throttling, where the GPU slows down to protect itself, costing you FPS. Above 90°C, you should take action.
What causes high temperatures
Common culprits include dust buildup, poor case airflow, high ambient room temperature, an aggressive overclock, or old thermal paste. Laptops run hotter than desktops by nature.
